BLACK CULTURAL ARCHIVES

Wayfinding design

The Brief:

The Black Cultural Archives (BCA) in Brixton, London, needed a signage system for the UK’s first Black Heritage Centre. The challenge was to create signage that aligned with their brand guidelines and effectively guided visitors.

My Thoughts:

I immersed myself in BCA’s brand identity and mission. My strategy was to design functional and aesthetically pleasing signage, reflecting the centre's cultural significance. I considered layout, visitor flow, and accessibility, and collaborated with BCA’s team to incorporate brand elements like colour schemes and typography.

The Solution:

The final signage system used a consistent colour palette and typography, clearly marking key areas and amenities. The design included elements from the BCA’s brand language which improved navigation and reinforcing BCA’s cultural narrative, creating a cohesive and welcoming experience for visitors.
